Where is Rogues Hollow Regiment from and where does the corps rehearse?

RHR is Northeast Ohio’s only all-age competitive drum & bugle corps. The corps is based out of Doylestown, OH and typically practices in a variety of locations throughout Summit County, mostly in and around the Akron, OH area.

What age do I have to be to participate and is experience required?

RHR is an all-age group and accepts members 14 and older and from all walks of life. At least one year of HS marching band experience is preferred, but not necessary.

What spots can I audition for?

RHR offers positions for drum major, color guard, trumpet, mellophone, baritone, euphonium, tuba, drum set, marching percussion, keyboards, synth, electric & bass guitar, and select auxiliary percussion.  Auditions for all sections will be held at the November & December camps.

What is the process for becoming a member?

Potential members must attend our November and December audition camps where we will evaluate character, attitude, work ethic, desire, skill set, and willingness to learn. Along with this evaluation, you may have an audition for the section you wish to be in.  If we feel that both your personal and performance qualities line up with our standards and expectations for membership, we will then offer a membership contract. We work to have all members signed by the end of the Jan. camp at the latest. If any spots in the corps remain after our January camp, they will be posted to social media and will be filled on a first come first served basis pending an audition. If a potential member is unable to attend an audition camp, we will accept video auditions. Please message the corps for more info regarding those.

What if I want to march with RHR but am currently participating in WGI?

Participating in WGI during the winter does not disqualify you from auditioning for a spot to march RHR in the summer. However, there are 2 commitments you MUST make to the corps once contracted even though you will not be participating in any events until the WGI season is over. Failure to abide by these commitments could potentially void your contract.

To earn a spot, attend the winter audition camps if possible. If you can’t, a video audition can be sent to the Caption Head of the section you’re auditioning for. If you’re offered a contract and sign, you will then be required to make a negotiated financial commitment as well as a commitment to completing and submitting any required video assignment when due. Upholding these commitments GUARANTEES your spot until you can return.

How much do audition camps cost?

Until you are signed to a contract, camp fees are $50. This covers meals, instruction, facility rental, equipment expenses, and other misc. items. Camp fees also count towards your membership fee which you’ll begin paying monthly once signed.

What is the membership fee and when do I have to have it paid?

The 2024 membership fee is $1,500 and is due in full by June 1.  Once contracted, members will be sent monthly invoices and make pre-determined payments. However, fees may be paid off as soon as possible.

RHR also requires all members to participate in a Spring fundraiser and sell $200 worth of raffle tickets (ten $20 tickets). Any sales beyond that amount will be credited to the individual's membership fee at a 50% rate ($10 per ticket).  For members traveling 2.5 hours or more to participate in RHR, this fundraiser is highly encouraged, but optional.  Members that qualify for this will receive the membership fee credit for EVERY ticket sale.

RHR fees cover many things including instruction, equipment, vehicles, uniforms, facility rental, meals, travel, accommodations, and other misc. expenses throughout the season.

How long is the season?

The season runs from the first audition camp in mid-November thru Championship weekend or the 2nd weekend in August. The corps sometimes also has optional events after the season ends that take place in September and/or October. Those are open to all members and alumni.

What is the practice & performance schedule like?

In November and December, all sections will attend one audition camp per month. From January thru April, the rehearsal schedule will vary dependening upon your section.

Contracted Drum Majors and Brass members not participating in WGI events will attend 2 weekend rehearsals each month. For contracted Percussion and Color Guard members not participating in WGI events, rehearsal dates and times will be at the discretion of the Caption Heads and may be held in person or virtually.

From May through DCI All-Age Finals the second week of August, we require 3-4 weekend commitments per month.

What is the attendance policy?

Once you are a contracted member, you’re expected to attend and be on time for EVERY rehearsal and performance. Members need to make every effort to schedule around RHR’s winter and summer schedule that will be provided at the audition camps. Once contracted, absences will only be tolerated for illness/injury, family emergency, school functions, or a work shift or vacation that couldn’t be rescheduled. Members missing any function are responsible for catching up on their own and future performance opportunities may be limited at the staff’s discretion if a member falls behind due to absences.

What performance opportunities will I have?

You’ll have lots of performance opportunities. RHR marches in parades, does stage shows and special events, and competes in the DCI All-Age circuit. Most of these take events take place on a weekend with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 which would be on a Monday or Friday or holiday.

Does the corps provide meals or am I responsible for them?

RHR provides delicious and fresh meals (vegetarian & vegan also) covering all the food groups at almost every weekend rehearsal during the Winter & Spring as well as during the Summer whether at a rehearsal or on the road. If a member would prefer to bring their own meal(s) instead, they are welcome to do so. The only thing members will be financially responsible for is drinks and snacks at rest areas when the corps travels.

What is DCI All-Age?

Beginning in 2024, RHR will be begin competing in this circuit. DCI All-Age is the newest competing class in DCI and will have championships in Indianapolis the same day as DCI Finals. Formerly known as DCA or Drum Corps Associates, this branch of DCI is the governing body for the All-Age Drum & Bugle corps circuit in the United States. Corps competing in DCI All-Age will do so in either Class A, Open Class, or World Class depending on their membership size. RHR has competed in Class A in DCA the past several years and won both the 2021 and 2023 Championships.

Is Rogues Hollow Regiment for me?

RHR will provide you with a stable organization, quality instruction, and a solid platform to help you better your character, self-confidence, and performance qualities through the marching arts. As with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. The group is founded on the principle of “family” and that is how we treat each other as we work and strive to be the most crowd-engaging and entertaining group possible. Your opportunity and chance for an enjoyable and very personally rewarding and satisfying experience are high, but the outcome is completely determined by you.
